Not my favorite intro to bio book. Descriptions and ideas lack the complexity I was looking for. Good for high schoolers, not for undergrads.

The material this book covers is fascinating! Cells, Biology, Chemistry, Molecules- I LOVE it! I think I'm a science geek. That would explain my severe love of microscopes..

Back to school! I find I understand the material much better if:
1) I hear the info in lecture first and
2) I am walking and reading the material aloud to myself

I'm one of those kinesthetic learners. I'm setting up an elliptical machine in my house with a book stand so I can study at home and keep moving. If I keep this up I'll be a super model by the time I graduate haha

i wouldnt recommend u to read this edition since ive read the 4th and 5th editions, and so many changes have been made already, since science is so dynamic..!
reading the book,and the topics related to my majors now..ive learned about the physiological activities of the plant and animal cells; membrane polarization;

Throughout the year I had to read almost this whole textbook. And it was painful, so of course I'm going to add it to my read list.

Some topics that are very complex were skipped over and simplified like crazy which didn't give me a very good understanding at all. Other topics that are fairly simple get a full two pages (their max for any one concept) when they hardly needed it. I did like how there were plenty of pictures and diagrams about the concepts they discussed.

It was an ok book. Everything was outlined well enough, although some points could have used a bit more explanation & the definitions seemed a little clunky to memorize. Still, it was an invaluable learning tool in my biology class.
